The Power of One

Last night we watched a film for University Life class called The Power of One. While the movie was fine and had a good message, it simply could not keep my interest. I started wondering why some true stories simply werent as interesting as fiction. Every day we find immense interest in much less interesting stories that our friends tell us concerning relationships, lunch, and a wide variety of topics that, if put into a movie, could bore us to death. Is it because stories that peers tell relate to us in some way? Is it because we can react and influence events directly that are spoken of? True, some truth is stranger and more interesting than fiction, not only because it actually happened, but because it cannot be explained by common means.

I've been there...

I could totally relate to today's film about the guys shooting the ninja movie. There have been so many times when wierd occurences come up and our shooting would be completely disorganized and messy. Although some genius moments have come out of random shooting....Seeing all these short films really makes me want to get back into doing it. Making effects out of raw random materials is about the funnest thing ever. Its one of the more creative processes actually, people up in trees with a camera connected to a pole for a crane shot and stuff like that, good stuff.

Lines, lines, lines.

I've always thought that that concept was interesting of how lines can make you feel differently. Technically, art is primarily lines, and art inspires great feeling, but the fact that one or two lines can change your perspective on something is incredibly interesting. I've started to subconsciously draw lines when Im going through the day as well now that I've been thinking about it....kinda scary in a way, haha, I feel obsessive compulsive or something.

Big Books and Gay Boyfriends

I thought the first animation that was shown, the one with the girl in the box, was absolutely incredible. The way each object had a discernable personality and relationship was well established, such as the box's confinement and negative sheltering of the girl. My first thoughts when I saw it were that the fire was creativity and the box was, well....a box so to speak, one that keeps your creative nature out and routine, trained thought in.
The music video Baby got Book was in my perspective, hilarious. I had trouble reasoning why however, that it would cause up so much controversy. Even to non Christians, the film is so utterly ridiculous, theres no way that they could take that seriously and cause them to have a negative view of Christianity.
Gay Boyfriend was hilarious as well. The raw truths that it had were a little surprising as well, such as the fact that, the majority of girls like men who arent so macho and hardcore, but soft and seeking a relationship that mirrors more of a friendship.
On an off note, I saw the movie Crank last night.....utterly RIDICULOUS, but much to my surprise it made me laugh harder than I have in a while. Many parts were actually incredibly ingenious for an action movie such as use of the random text/text reversing and projected images for those who have seen it. I think the directors goal in making this film was to make a movie that knew it was ridiculous so it elaborated on it by overemphasizing everything.

God speed everyone, Orie
